Hisbah Arrests Bride, Groom, Three Others Over Alleged Illegal Marriage
Operatives of the Kano State Hisbah Board have arrested a groom, his bride, and three others for allegedly conducting an illegal marriage ceremony without the consent of the bride’s parents.
According to the Deputy Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Dr. Mujahideen Aminuddeen, the marriage was performed with a dowry of ₦10,000, which falls below the minimum amount recognised by Islamic legal standards. The others arrested were said to have acted as representatives and a witness during the ceremony.
Dr. Aminuddeen explained that the union contravened both Islamic and legal marital procedures. He confirmed that the Hisbah Board had commenced an investigation into the matter to determine the extent of the violation and the appropriate sanctions.
The Deputy Commander General urged parents to pay closer attention to their children’s social activities and to provide proper guidance in marriage-related matters to prevent similar incidents.
