U.S. Lawmaker Introduces Bill Requiring Immigrants to Renounce Sharia Law
A United States congressman, Barry Moore, has introduced proposed legislation that would require immigrants entering the country as religious workers to formally renounce Sharia law and affirm allegiance to the U.S. Constitution.
Moore announced the bill on social media platform X, describing the proposal as the “CRUSADE Act.” He said the measure is intended to prevent the promotion of religious doctrines he considers incompatible with American constitutional principles.
“Sharia law justifies the persecution of religious minorities, restrictions on women, and the elevation of religious law above all. This is why I introduced the CRUSADE Act,” Moore stated.
He added that religious workers seeking entry into the United States should be required to disavow Sharia law as part of their commitment to constitutional values.
“Immigrants entering our nation as religious workers should disavow sharia and uphold the Constitution,” he said.
Sharia law, derived from Islamic religious teachings, is applied in different forms across various countries and Muslim communities worldwide.
The proposal comes amid ongoing debate in the United States over immigration policy, religious freedom, and constitutional interpretation. The First Amendment guarantees freedom of religion, while immigration rules for religious workers are governed by federal visa regulations.
The introduction of the bill has also drawn attention within broader political discussions about the relationship between religious practice and public law in the United States. Lawmakers supporting similar positions argue that political Islam and Sharia-based legal systems are incompatible with American constitutional principles.
The debate continues as Congress considers a range of immigration and religious freedom-related proposals, with differing views on how best to balance national legal frameworks and religious expression.
