A 22year old singer Yahaya Aminu Sharif has been sentenced to death by an Upper Shari’a Court sitting at Hausawa Quarters in Kano, for blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.
He was found guilty on a one-count charge bordering on derogatory comments contained in one of his songs.
The Shari’a court Khadi, Aliyu Muhammad Kani recently delivered the ruling, finding Yahaya guilty.
Yahaya, resides in Sharifai quarters in Kano municipal. He was accused of committing blasphemy against prophet Muhammad in a song he circulated on social media in March 2020.
Hundreds of angry youths had stormed the Kano Hisbah board headquarters in protest against what they considered an assault on prophet Muhammad.
The youths accused government and security agencies of undue protection and failure to act appropriately against Yahaya.
The irate youths had invaded Yahaya’s family house and consequently razed down the family house when they could not lay their hands on the singer.
