In a chaotic scene in Abuja’s Lugbe area, two individuals are feared dead following a violent exchange of gunfire between Nigerian police and suspected hoodlums. The confrontation, which has sent residents into a state of panic, erupted in the Angwa Gbagi neighborhood.
Witnesses report that police have been firing teargas and live rounds sporadically in an attempt to disperse the hoodlums. The sporadic shooting has left many residents scrambling for safety, unsure of the reason behind the intense police action.
“Gunshots have been ringing out continuously. We can’t go home and are desperately seeking shelter. It’s terrifying,” one witness said.
Another local, who identified herself as Mummy Salvation, expressed her distress: “I cannot go home to my family tonight. This is very dangerous and uncalled for.”
