President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Armstrong Idachaba.
You would recall that Idachaba had been appointed in the acting capacity after the former DG, Modibbo Kawu was suspended due to allegations of fraud.
It is believed in many quarters, that the sack of Idachaba might not be unconnected with the on-going issues concerning the recent #Twitterban.
The government had only recently banned the operations of Twitter, threatening to prosecute anyone who flouts the ban order.
The removal of Idachaba was made known in a statement signed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed. He also announced the appointment of Balarabe Shehu as the new DG of NBC.
Lai Mohammed stated that the new DG’s appointment is for a tenure of five years at the first instance.
He was however silent on the reasons for removal of Idachaba.
