Tunde Ayeni Sentenced to 10 Years in U.S. Court, Ordered to Pay $20 Million Restitution

Babatunde Ayeni has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by a United States District Court for his involvement in internet fraud. The sentence, handed down by Judge Terry Moorer of the District Court for the Southern District of Alabama, also requires Ayeni to pay nearly $20 million in restitution to his victims.

Court filings revealed that Ayeni pleaded guilty to charges of fraud, leading to his 120-month prison term. Judge Moorer, in a ruling on October 31, specified that Ayeni must pay $19,599,969 to the individuals and organizations he defrauded, though it was noted that Ayeni ceased his fraudulent activities in April 2019.

Acknowledging Ayeni’s financial constraints, the court waived any interest on the restitution amount. Ayeni is to share the responsibility for this repayment with co-conspirators Feyisayo Oyindola Oginsanwo and Yusuf Olasunkanmi Lasisi.

Following his prison term, U.S. immigration authorities will decide whether Ayeni will be deported or allowed to remain in the country under strict conditions for three years of supervised release.
