Tudun Biri Drone Bombing: Residents Anticipate Compensation, Committee Reports One Month Later
A month after the tragic drone bombing error that claimed over 100 lives in Tudun Biri village, residents are anxiously awaiting compensation for their losses and the outcomes of various committees established by different government tiers.
The incident, which occurred on December 3, 2023, during a Maulud celebration, led to casualties in Tudun Biri, Ugara, and Sabon Gida. The Nigerian Army, taking responsibility, attributed the mistake to an error.
Malam Bala Tudun Biri expressed the lasting impact of the tragedy, stating that it would be remembered for generations.
President Bola Ahmad Tinubu ordered a thorough investigation, urging calm as committees at both the defense headquarters and federal government levels probed the incident. Former Senator Shehu Sani deemed the investigative panels unnecessary, emphasizing the need to swiftly identify and bring to justice those responsible for the drone attack.
As investigations unfold, Chief Imam Hashim Jafar highlighted that military officers conducted interviews with residents, assuring them of justice. Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, assured that any guilty officers would face appropriate punishment.
Despite promises and donations, community leaders claim the affected areas had no terrorist presence. Vice President Kashim Shettima outlined a comprehensive plan for rebuilding Tudun Biri, including houses, clinics, schools, and empowerment initiatives. However, community leaders report delays in project implementation, citing the holidays.
Governor Uba Sani recently inaugurated a committee to monitor fund disbursement. The Chief Press Secretary assured that all donations were intact in the state account, and medical bills were covered by the state treasury. Meanwhile, residents like Auwal Shehu Ugara, who lost a family member, are still waiting for compensation and fulfillment of promises.
The Tudun Biri community remains vigilant, anticipating justice and tangible actions following the unfortunate drone bombing incident.
