Trump Administration Weighs $5,000 ‘Baby Bonus’ for Mothers in Push to Raise U.S. Birth Rate
The Trump administration is reportedly exploring new initiatives aimed at increasing the U.S. birth rate, including a proposal to offer a $5,000 “baby bonus” to mothers after childbirth. According to a report by *The New York Times*, administration officials have been holding private discussions with activists and birth advocates to develop strategies that would encourage higher birth rates across the country.
Among the ideas under consideration is a financial incentive program that would provide direct cash payments to new mothers. Another proposal being floated involves the creation of a “National Medal of Motherhood,” which would be awarded to women who have six or more children—a concept with historical precedent in some authoritarian regimes.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt commented on the initiative, saying President Trump is “proudly implementing policies to uplift American families.” She added, “The President wants America to be a country where all children can safely grow up and achieve the American dream.” Leavitt, a mother herself, expressed personal support for the effort, saying she is proud to serve an administration focused on building a better future for the next generation.
