Truck Loses Control, Crashes into Lagos Market – Three Dead
A truck has reportedly suffered a brake failure and veered into Ayetoro Market, Lagos State, resulting in the death of at least three people. The accident occurred as the truck descended from Ita-Opo, losing control and first colliding with a commercial tricycle and a parked Toyota Camry before careening into the busy market.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a post on its official X account, formerly known as Twitter, sharing details and a video of the scene.
“A fatal accident occurred due to a brake failure of a truck descending from Ita-Opo. It hit a commercial tricycle and a parked Toyota Camry before ramming into the Ayetoro Market/Complex,” LASTMA stated.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene promptly, transporting the victims’ bodies to Epe General Hospital’s morgue. Authorities have since deployed a tow truck to remove the damaged vehicles from the area.
In response to the accident, LASTMA has implemented a traffic diversion to ease the flow of vehicles around the market, as officials work to clear the area and prevent further congestion.
