Troops Launch Manhunt After Killing of Fulani Leader in Plateau

Troops under Operation Enduring Peace have begun a manhunt for those responsible for the killing of a Fulani community leader in Plateau State.

The victim, Alhaji Bilyaminu Julde, who held the traditional title of Ardo of Gindiri in the Gashish area of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, was shot dead late Saturday night.

A security source said troops were alerted to gunfire in the area at about 11:45 p.m. on March 28, 2026. On arrival at the scene, they found that the assailants had already fled after attacking Julde in his residence.

The attackers were not identified, and no arrests have been made.

Security personnel recovered two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and 29 spent shells at the scene, according to the source.

Julde’s body was subsequently released to his family for burial in line with local customs.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing, while troops have increased patrols in the area as efforts continue to locate and apprehend those behind the attack.
