Transformer Explosion Claims 6 Lives in Jos
The Jos Electricity Distribution Company is in mourning after a transformer explosion rocked the Kabong community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in the tragic loss of at least six lives. The incident, which occurred on a fateful Saturday, also left numerous individuals injured and caused extensive damage to residential buildings and shops in the vicinity.
In a heartfelt statement issued on Saturday, Dr. Friday Adakole, the Head of Corporate Communications for the electricity company, expressed the company’s deepest condolences to the families affected by the devastating incident.
“Jos Electricity Distribution Plc is anguished by the unfortunate incident at about 03:13 hours today, affecting customers on our Kabong primary Distribution Transformer in the Kabong area, Rukuba Road, Jos,” the statement read.
Preliminary investigations into the incident suggest that a high-tension line snapped onto the low-tension lines, leading to an excessive voltage supply that went beyond safety limits. This, in turn, caused the source feeder to trip off and inter-tripped the Transmission end source from the Makeri Transmission Station.
The company assured the public that they will closely monitor the situation and communicate the facts surrounding this regrettable incident. Furthermore, an evaluation of the root causes is currently underway, and necessary measures will be implemented to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.
“We express our deepest sympathies to the families who have suffered losses as a result of this incident. We are grateful to the traditional and community leaders in the area for their unwavering support in managing the effects of this accident,” the statement concluded.
This tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the importance of maintaining the safety and integrity of electrical infrastructure to prevent such devastating incidents.
