Trailer Crushes 21 Passengers in Early Morning Collision
In a devastating early morning accident on Thursday, September 12, 2024, 21 people lost their lives along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway. The collision involved a trailer truck and a passenger Hummer bus, reportedly heading to Kano and Batsari in Katsina State.
According to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), three survivors were rushed to Umaru Musa Memorial Hospital in Sabon-Wuse for medical treatment, while the remains of the deceased were transported to the hospital morgue.
The accident occurred near a route diversion, which had forced vehicles from both directions onto a single lane. Witnesses reported that the driver of the trailer fled the scene, abandoning the truck and another container-laden vehicle, blocking the busy highway and causing significant traffic delays.
The Divisional Police Officer of Tafa Division, S.P Idris Ibrahim, confirmed the incident but was still compiling his report at the time of this news. Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansur Hassan, were unsuccessful.
