Tragic Murder Rocks FUTMinna: Police Launch Investigation

The Niger State Police Command has initiated a thorough investigation into the heart-wrenching murder of a prominent lecturer from the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMinna), Mrs. Adefolalu Funmilola. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the academic community, saw the associate professor from the department of biochemistry fall victim to unidentified assailants in her own home in the Gbaiko area of Minna.

The horrifying incident unfolded on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at approximately 10 am. Friends and colleagues of the deceased, who had grown concerned after failing to reach her by phone, paid an impromptu visit to her residence. To their horror, they discovered Mrs. Adefolalu lying lifeless in her home, drenched in her own blood, with visible signs of injuries.

Two blood-stained knives, believed to have been the weapons used in the attack, were discovered at the scene of the crime. The lifeless body was subsequently transported to IBB Hospital in Minna, where medical professionals tragically confirmed her demise. The community and the academic world are left in shock as they grapple with the implications of this horrific incident.

Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), FUTF Minna chapter, Bolarin Gbolahan, has confirmed this distressing event, emphasizing the growing concern over attacks on educators in Nigeria. He referred to such incidents as alarming, describing the lecturers in the country as an endangered group, citing frequent abductions and violence. Gbolahan attributed this crisis to the prevailing state of insecurity, citing systemic failures as the root cause. As the investigation unfolds, the entire nation awaits answers and justice for this tragic loss.
