Tragic Accident Claims Five Lives in Edo as Truck Loses Control
In a devastating incident that shook the Okpella community along the Auchi/Abuja highway, Etsako East local government of Edo state, five individuals tragically lost their lives in a harrowing auto crash that transpired on Monday.
The fatal event unfolded when an articulated truck, making its descent from the Abuja side of the highway, unexpectedly lost control, leading to a catastrophic collision with a 14-seater bus and a Toyota Camry car near the local market.
The State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Paul Okpe, confirmed the grim toll of the accident. He stated that five people succumbed to their injuries, while two others were fortunate enough to survive but sustained injuries requiring medical attention.
Okpe offered insights into the ongoing investigation, saying, “My command and the police conducted a swift rescue operation, bringing the situation under control. The circumstances surrounding this tragic accident are still under investigation. Potential factors such as brake failure or driver fatigue are being considered. Until the investigation is complete, we cannot definitively attribute the exact cause of the accident.”
In light of this heart-wrenching incident, Okpe issued a stern reminder to all road users, emphasizing the importance of vehicle roadworthiness, especially during the “Em-ber” months. He assured the public that the dedicated personnel of the FRSC would remain committed to their duty of ensuring road safety.
