Tony Elumelu Foundation Gains Recognition as Harvard Business School Incorporates it into Curriculum

In a pioneering move, the Harvard Business School is shining a spotlight on the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), marking a significant milestone in recognizing the foundation’s remarkable philanthropic accomplishments. The school is set to launch a groundbreaking case study – the first of its kind focusing on any philanthropic organization in Africa.

Today, in a classroom in Boston, Massachusetts, a class of graduate students will delve into the unique approaches and transformative initiatives of the Tony Elumelu Foundation. The case study aims to showcase how TEF’s strategic philanthropy is catalyzing positive change and uplifting nations and communities across the African continent.

The TEF, known for empowering young African entrepreneurs in all 54 African countries, sees this recognition by Harvard as a testament to its pivotal role in the global dialogue on transformative and catalytic philanthropy. The case study acknowledges the foundation’s significant contributions to fostering entrepreneurship in Africa, positioning it at the forefront of discussions on impactful philanthropy.

An official statement from the TEF emphasized that the event would not only explore the foundation’s innovative approaches and their lasting impact but would also feature an exclusive acknowledgment of Tony Elumelu, the founder of TEF. Elumelu’s economic philosophy of Africapitalism, which positions the private sector and entrepreneurs as catalysts for social and economic development in Africa, will be highlighted.

Tony Elumelu expressed the profound impact of TEF on African youth, stating, “TEF is creating economic hope and opportunity for African entrepreneurs. Through the intervention of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, we are encouraging our young people, giving them hope through the seed capital we provide, capacitising them through the training and mentoring we provide, and setting them up to create businesses that will succeed and create even more jobs. Collectively, we are fixing the challenges that we have on the continent.”
