British Council Raises IELTS Fees in Nigeria for the Second Time in 2024
The British Council in Nigeria has announced another hike in the fees for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examinations, marking the second increase this year.
Last month, the examination fees saw a significant surge of 29%, soaring from the previous N107,500. The breakdown of the initial adjustments included IELTS on computer academic and general training modules at N139,000, IELTS on paper academic and general training modules at N134,000, UK visas and immigration (UKVI) at N149,000, Life skills at N130,000, and one skill retake (O.S.R) at N87,570.
In a recent update on its website, the British Council revealed further revisions to the fees. As of March 1, the new rates are as follows: IELTS on computer academic and general training modules – N266,000, IELTS on paper academic and general training modules – N256,500, UKVI – N285,500, and life skills – N249,000.
The British Council clarified that these fees are subject to future reviews based on market dynamics. The council attributed this change to evolving market conditions and increased costs in the exam delivery process.
The updated prices for the IELTS range of tests will take effect from March 1, 2024. This adjustment follows a similar increase in September 2023 when the council raised the IELTS cost from approximately N90,000 to N107,500, emphasizing the necessity of sustaining high-quality standards for the testing experience.
