Tinubu’s Campaign Coordinator Quits APC, Cites Betrayal, Neglect

Former Zamfara Central senator, Kabiru Garba Marafa, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) along with his entire political structure, citing injustice, marginalisation and neglect by the ruling party and the federal government.

The development was announced in a communiqué issued by the Senator Kabiru Marafa Consultative Forum after a two-day meeting held in Kaduna. The document, signed by the forum’s chairman, Bashir Marafa, secretary, Mannir Tsafe, and seven other members, declared that Marafa and his supporters had formally withdrawn their membership of the APC in Zamfara State.

An aide to the former lawmaker, who confirmed the resignation, said Marafa felt betrayed after his efforts in delivering victory for President Bola Tinubu in Zamfara during the 2023 elections were not recognised by the administration. “Despite everything he did to secure Tinubu’s victory in Zamfara, he was left out of this government,” the aide said.

The forum accused the APC leadership and the presidency of abandoning the principles of fairness, equity and accountability, alleging that Zamfara State had suffered deliberate neglect. It also condemned what it described as the politicisation of insecurity in the state, pointing to the by-election in Kaura Namoda where heavy security was deployed to secure votes but withdrawn soon after, leaving communities exposed to repeated bandit attacks.

The communiqué expressed dissatisfaction with the federal government’s handling of insecurity in Zamfara, noting that the state had recorded some of the highest figures of killings and abductions in the country. The forum described the ruling party’s conduct as a betrayal of trust and said its members could no longer remain within its fold.

Although Marafa and his group did not indicate which political party they plan to join next, they promised to announce their new direction soon, stressing that their decision would be guided by the collective interest of the people of Zamfara State.
