Tinubu’s Birthday Message to Me Shamed Them – El-Rufai Mocks Critics
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has stated that President Bola Tinubu’s birthday message to him silenced his critics.
El-Rufai, who recently criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for lacking internal democracy under Tinubu’s leadership, said the president’s message forced those who initially hesitated to celebrate him to do so.
The former governor had accused APC’s leadership of failing to convene meetings for the past two years, coinciding with Tinubu’s tenure. He also declared that he no longer recognized the party.
Despite his criticism, Tinubu sent El-Rufai a congratulatory message on February 16, 2025, praising his contributions. In response, El-Rufai took to social media platform X on Monday, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming show of support on his 65th birthday.
He noted that the prayers and good wishes he received were humbling but acknowledged that he was unable to personally respond to everyone. He also took a jab at those who delayed their messages, stating that Tinubu’s acknowledgment compelled them to join in celebrating him.
El-Rufai concluded his message by praying for a prosperous Nigeria with progressive governance and equal opportunities for all.
Amid these developments, the former governor has been engaging with opposition figures, including former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
