“Tinubu Will Release Nnamdi Kanu; We Are Ready to Stand as Guarantors” – Abaribe
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will release Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The senator described Tinubu as a listening leader who understands the urgency of addressing insecurity and criminal activities in the Southeast.
Speaking to reporters after meeting Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, Abaribe said the president has been urged by various stakeholders, including the Attorney General of the Federation, to consider Kanu’s release as a step toward restoring peace. “What we now know in the Southeast is that criminals and violent actors are exploiting Nnamdi Kanu’s name to carry out despicable acts. Releasing him will help halt these issues and restore the Southeast as Nigeria’s hub of production,” Abaribe stated.
The lawmaker linked the region’s economic challenges to insecurity, stressing the need to create a conducive environment for productivity. “You cannot tax people who don’t produce,” he said, emphasizing that releasing Kanu would help remove barriers to economic growth in the region.
To facilitate Kanu’s release, Abaribe assured that political leaders in the Southeast are willing to stand as guarantors. “We are ready and willing to be the guarantors for him to be released so that we can have life coming back into the Southeast and take it away from the criminals, kidnappers, cultists, and dangerous elements,” he declared.
Abaribe urged President Tinubu to act decisively, expressing hope that the move would restore normalcy and reaffirm the region’s role as an economic powerhouse.
