Tinubu to Visit Abia for Road and Other Project Commissionings

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to visit Abia State on May 23 to commission several projects, including the newly rebuilt 6.5-kilometre Port Harcourt Road in Aba. The road, which had been in a state of disrepair for over 15 years, was reconstructed by the administration of Governor Alex Otti.

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, confirmed the President’s upcoming visit while inspecting a separate federal project—the damaged Osisioma section of the 56-kilometre Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway between Abia Tower of Peace in Umuahia and the Rail Flyover in Aba. Speaking during the inspection, Umahi praised the quality of work on Port Harcourt Road, attributing its completion to the state government’s commitment under Governor Otti.

Expressing satisfaction, the Minister noted that the project exemplifies effective governance. “Otti is my relation and doing good while in office runs in our veins, so I’m not surprised at what he is doing. I would have been if he is not doing well,” Umahi remarked.

On the Osisioma axis, where a two-kilometre stretch of the expressway was damaged, the Minister ordered the Controller of Works in Abia to halt the activities of the contractor responsible for the underground drainage work and report to the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja. He also indicated plans to meet with Governor Otti to resolve the issue amicably.

Umahi further revealed that the reconstruction of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, which began in 2013, is now projected to be completed in November 2025. President Tinubu is expected to return to commission that project upon completion.
