Tinubu Swiftly Acts: Suspends NSIPA Coordinator Halima Shehu, Names Replacement
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended Halima Shehu, the recently appointed national coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), due to allegations of financial misappropriation.
The decision, made public on January 2, 2024, comes just two months after the Senate confirmed Shehu’s appointment as the head of NSIPA. President Tinubu, known for his commitment to accountability, took prompt action in response to the serious allegations.
In the interim, Dr. Akindele Egbuwalo, the National N-POWER Program Manager, has been appointed as the acting National Coordinator/CEO while investigations into the financial misconduct accusations unfold. This move aims to ensure the smooth functioning of NSIPA during this challenging period.
It is noteworthy that Halima Shehu’s appointment was initially approved by President Tinubu on October 12, 2023. The suspension signals a commitment to transparency and accountability within the National Social Investment Programme Agency as the investigation progresses.
