Tinubu, Shettima’s Residences to Undergo N6.36bn Renovation in 2025

The Federal Government has earmarked N6.36 billion for the renovation and rehabilitation of the official residences of President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and their aides in the proposed 2025 budget. This expenditure is outlined in the 2025 Appropriation Bill currently before the National Assembly.

Analysis of the bill reveals that N5.49 billion has been allocated for the annual maintenance of the Presidential Villa. Specific renovations include N765 million for the Vice President’s quarters and guest house, while the President’s residence at the State House is set to undergo a N6.39 million upgrade. Additional upgrades include N49 million for security quarters, an auditorium, a gymnasium, and the presidential aides’ quarters, with another N51 million designated for the Prescott Barracks, State House officers’ mess, and a signal office in Asokoro, Abuja.

The budget also provides N87 million for honoraria and sitting allowances for the President and Vice President, while N127 million is allocated for the purchase of SUVs. Furthermore, N3.66 billion has been set aside for operational vehicles, with N1.09 billion earmarked for replacing SUVs at the State House.

For the State House Lagos Liaison Office, the budget includes N14.72 million for routine maintenance of facilities, including Dodan Barracks and the Vice President’s guest houses in Ikoyi. An additional N140.10 million is allocated for completing renovations and furnishing the State House annex in Lagos.

The Federal Government has also planned to spend N1.83 billion on converting properties forfeited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into official State House quarters. This follows a recent EFCC recovery of an estate in the Lokogoma District of Abuja, described as the commission’s largest asset recovery to date. The estate, containing 753 duplexes and apartments, spans 150,500 square meters and was forfeited under a court ruling on December 2, 2024.
