Tinubu Saved Rivers from Looming Anarchy – Fubara

Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with rescuing the state from a looming political breakdown, describing the declaration of emergency rule as a decisive move that averted chaos. Speaking in Port Harcourt during a meeting with leaders and stakeholders of the Simplified Movement to mark his second year in office, Fubara said Tinubu’s timely intervention brought the state back from the brink.

Fubara praised the President’s action as one taken with “wisdom at the right time,” urging Rivers residents and Nigerians to appreciate Tinubu’s efforts. He said the intervention prevented a complete breakdown of executive and legislative functions and set the stage for a peace and reconciliation process now underway.

He assured supporters that both arms of government would soon resume full operations and work together in harmony. “I want to assure you that the issues will soon be resolved, and you will come back to your offices—not just the executive arm, but also the legislative arm,” Fubara said. “What is important is for us to have a forgiving spirit.”

Fubara urged all parties to submit to the peace process for the sake of the state’s future. He expressed gratitude to Tinubu and national figures who encouraged the President to intervene, saying, “If not for Mr. President, the story today would have been different.”

Reflecting on the political crisis that overshadowed the administration’s second year in office, Fubara said the time had come to reconcile and rebuild. He admitted that the turbulence had delayed development plans but promised that Rivers State would bounce back stronger. “We have to come down from our high horses and subject ourselves to the peace process,” he said. “What is important is for the state to move forward.”

The governor acknowledged the disappointment of those who were angered by his handling of the crisis, saying his decisions were guided by a desire to protect peace and ensure progress. He also confirmed ongoing reconciliation efforts with his predecessor, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, saying there was no reason peace could not be restored. “We are meeting. We will reconcile,” he said.

Fubara thanked Rivers people and Nigerians for their loyalty and prayers during the crisis. He also hinted at making difficult decisions to steer the state toward development. “We are at a crucial point in our journey, where difficult decisions must be made,” he said. “Be assured that every step we take will be guided by your best interests and the enduring good of Rivers State.”

Despite the political upheaval, the governor highlighted modest but significant strides made in healthcare, education, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and the inclusion of women in governance. He reaffirmed his commitment to delivering good governance and consolidating the administration’s gains, with peace, security, community welfare, and socio-economic progress a stop priorities.
