Tinubu Resumes Minimum Wage Discussions with Labour Leaders
President Bola Tinubu is currently in a meeting with leaders from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The discussions are focused on finalizing the new minimum wage arrangements.
The Labour delegation is headed by Joe Ajaero, President of the NLC, and Comrade Festus Osifo, President of the TUC.
Last week, during a previous meeting with Labour leaders, President Tinubu emphasized the need for improved welfare, better wages, and enhanced working conditions for Nigerian workers. He reassured them of his administration’s commitment to establishing a wage that is acceptable to all parties involved.
The Labour leaders continue to stand firm on their demand for a minimum wage of N250,000, in contrast to the federal government’s proposal of N62,000.
Following the Federal Executive Council meeting last week, Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, announced that President Tinubu would hold a follow-up meeting with Labour leaders to reach a consensus. This ongoing meeting is part of President Tinubu’s efforts to engage with stakeholders and resolve the wage issue.
