Tinubu Orders Review of Tertiary Institution Boards for National Inclusivity
President Bola Tinubu has mandated a comprehensive review of the recently announced governing boards of Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. This directive comes ahead of the planned inauguration and retreat for the nominees.
The Federal Ministry of Education recently unveiled the list of nominees for chairmen, Pro-Chancellors, and members of the boards and councils of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The inauguration and retreat are scheduled for May 31.
However, a statement from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, highlighted public concerns that the nominations did not adequately reflect the federal character of the nation. Discrepancies were noted, with some states receiving only one nomination while others received multiple.
President Tinubu has called for a complete review of the list, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring adherence to the principle of federal character as stipulated in the constitution.
