Tinubu Opts for Low-Key 72nd Birthday Celebration Amidst National Hardship

In the wake of ongoing hardships faced by Nigerians due to policy reforms, President Bola Tinubu has chosen to forego any form of celebration for his 72nd birthday. Instead, he has urged associates not to extend traditional greetings through radio, television, or newspaper adverts.

President Tinubu, set to mark his 72nd birthday on March 29, has directed well-wishers to redirect any planned celebrations towards charitable causes. In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu emphasized his commitment to using the occasion for personal reflection and rededication to nation-building.

The statement clarified, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will turn 72 on Friday, March 29, 2024. The day will be another important milestone in his life as a leader and a statesman.”

Recognizing the challenging times facing the nation, Tinubu has opted out of hosting any birthday festivities and has discouraged others from doing so on his behalf. He underscored the need for solidarity amidst recent security challenges, urging against any form of public celebration or birthday adverts.

“As the leader of our country, President Tinubu in deference to this challenging times will not host any birthday event and does not want any of his associates and numerous well-wishers across the country to organize any celebratory event on his behalf or in his name,” the statement reiterated.

Amidst a backdrop of national mourning following the loss of military and police personnel in Delta State, Tinubu’s decision reflects a somber acknowledgment of the country’s current realities.
