Tinubu Nominates Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance
President Bola Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, succeeding Dr. Doris Anite-Uzoka, who will move to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning. This marks Anite-Uzoka’s third ministerial portfolio under the Tinubu administration.
The President forwarded Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio. According to a statement from the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the appointment is aimed at reinforcing Nigeria’s fiscal and economic management.
Oyedele, 50, hails from Ikare in Akoko, Ondo State, and previously chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. In that role, he led major reforms that reshaped Nigeria’s tax system.
An economist, accountant, and public policy expert, Oyedele holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a B.Sc. in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has also completed executive programs at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Before entering public service, Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, rising to Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He is currently a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
