Tinubu Making Progress in All Sectors, Says Gowon
Former Nigerian Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his handling of national affairs, saying the administration is making progress across key sectors despite ongoing challenges.
Gowon made the remarks after a courtesy visit to the President at the State House in Abuja, where he spoke with journalists about the state of governance and national development.
“I came to see him and to thank him for all the good work he is doing for the country,” Gowon said, noting that Nigeria is witnessing economic and political progress under the current administration.
The former military leader, who governed Nigeria between 1966 and 1975, said the President appears to be addressing challenges across several sectors. Asked to identify areas requiring improvement, Gowon declined to single out any specific field, saying governance involves managing multiple priorities.
“Isn’t he doing the best he can all round?” he said, adding that the government must balance political, economic and social responsibilities.
Gowon also addressed the country’s security situation, describing it as a major challenge but expressing confidence in the government’s efforts to confront it.
According to him, the President is taking necessary steps to deal with security threats in the interest of national stability and unity. He added that the responsibility of resolving the situation ultimately rests with the government.
“The government is handling it the best it can to ensure that Nigeria achieves the peace it deserves,” Gowon said.
