Tinubu Knows Buhari Worked Against Him, Owes Him Nothing – Sule Lamido
In a recent interview with the Nigerian Tribune, former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has painted President Bola Tinubu as a formidable and self-made leader, asserting that Tinubu’s political success owes nothing to former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Lamido, a prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tinubu’s rise to the presidency was driven by his strategic manipulation of the political system. Lamido emphasized that Tinubu was fully aware of Buhari’s opposition to his candidacy, citing Tinubu’s bold claim in Abeokuta before the All Progressives Congress (APC) convention that it was his “turn” to rule Nigeria.
Lamido claimed that despite Buhari’s preference for other candidates, particularly Ahmed Lawan, Tinubu emerged victorious, demonstrating his political prowess. He noted that Tinubu has always been a determined figure, overcoming opposition from various quarters, including Afenifere and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to secure the presidency.
“Tinubu knows that his victory wasn’t from Buhari; therefore, he owes him nothing,” Lamido stated, adding that Tinubu’s ability to demolish political obstacles has made him a force to be reckoned with in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Lamido acknowledged the challenges facing the PDP but expressed the party’s determination to overcome them. He warned that Tinubu’s grip on the country, coupled with his bold leadership style, will make it difficult for opponents to challenge his administration.
Lamido concluded by describing Nigeria under Tinubu as a “fiefdom” where Tinubu, as “emperor,” operates with little concern for opposition or dissent.
