“Tinubu Is Joseph the Dreamer, Turning Visions into Reality” — Umahi
The Federal Government has spent over N2.2 trillion on road infrastructure since President Bola Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, according to Minister of Works, David Umahi. Speaking at a ministerial press briefing in Abuja, Umahi said the investment covers four major legacy projects and 260 completed palliative road works across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones.
Highlighting the administration’s achievements in the sector, Umahi announced that 440 road projects are currently underway nationwide. He said that 260 palliative road projects, valued at N208 billion, have already been delivered within two years. He described the ongoing infrastructure drive as evidence of Tinubu’s commitment to improving connectivity and boosting economic activities.
“In just two years, President Bola Tinubu’s administration has completed 260 palliative road projects nationwide,” Umahi said. “Beyond this, 29 major infrastructure projects totaling over N2 trillion have been undertaken, demonstrating an unparalleled dedication to revitalizing our national infrastructure.”
Drawing a biblical comparison, the minister likened President Tinubu to Joseph the dreamer, praising his vision and determination to execute long-term plans. He cited the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and the Sokoto-Badagry Highway as examples of the President’s far-reaching ambition. The Sokoto-Badagry project, conceptualized 47 years ago during the Shehu Shagari administration, has now been reimagined and initiated under Tinubu’s leadership.
“Mr. President is a man of courage. I call him Joseph the dreamer, and God has helped him turn his dreams into reality,” Umahi said. “The good news is the Sokoto-Badagry Highway. It was initially planned as Badagry-Sokoto, but a very detribalized President directed us to change it to Sokoto-Badagry.”
Umahi also credited Tinubu with stabilizing key economic indicators. “Under Tinubu’s leadership, our GDP is growing, inflation is decreasing, and our foreign exchange reserves are positively impacted. The World Bank reports that we are no longer indebted to them.”
As part of activities marking Tinubu’s second year in office, some completed road projects are expected to be commissioned on May 29. Umahi reiterated that the administration’s road infrastructure agenda is on course and praised the President for what he described as an unprecedented performance since taking office.
He concluded by dismissing critics from the Labour Party and its 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, saying, “I don’t want to be disobedient or a member of the Labour Party, which is very disobedient. But the greatest commendation goes to Mr. President.”
