Tinubu, Governors Agree on State Police, to Work out Implementation

President Bola Tinubu convened a crucial meeting with state governors on Thursday to deliberate on the establishment of state police as a strategic measure to address rising insecurity in the nation.

Information Minister Mohammed Idris, who briefed journalists following the meeting, revealed that both the federal and state governments are actively considering the feasibility of implementing state police.

“Now, there is also a discussion around the issue of state police. The federal government and the state governments are mulling the possibility of setting up state police,” said Mr. Idris.

While there is consensus on the imperative nature of state police, more extensive discussions are required to outline the specifics of its implementation.

“Of course, this is still going to be further discussed. A lot of work has to be done in that direction. Both the federal government and the state governments agree to the necessity of having state police; now, this is a significant shift. But like I said, more work needs to be done in that direction,” stated Mr. Idris.
