Tinubu Government Invites Labour Leaders to Aso Rock for Minimum Wage Negotiations
President Bola Tinubu has invited leaders from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to a meeting at Aso Rock scheduled for Thursday. This move aims to finalize discussions on a new national minimum wage.
Sources cited by reports indicate that President Tinubu is keen to resolve the protracted talks, with the labour unions steadfastly demanding a N250,000 minimum wage, while the government has proposed N62,000.
The ongoing negotiations have generated concerns among state governments and the private sector regarding the feasibility of paying the proposed wages. The outcome of the upcoming meeting remains uncertain, particularly regarding what new wage figure might emerge from the discussions.
