In a show of sportsmanship and admiration, President Bola Tinubu has praised the Super Eagles for their unwavering resilience and outstanding talent displayed during their campaign at the African Cup of Nations 2023 in Cote d’Ivoire.
Despite facing defeat in the Nations Cup final against the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire, on Sunday, President Tinubu lauded the team’s tenacious performance. A statement from the presidential spokesman conveyed Mr. Tinubu’s commendation for the entire Super Eagles’ ensemble, including the team, coach, crew, and the management staff.
Highlighting their hard work, diligence, and sacrifices that led them to the tournament’s final, President Tinubu characterized their journey as a testament to the indomitable ‘can do’ spirit of Nigerians. He acknowledged the team’s consistent ability to overcome obstacles, noting their steadily improving performance throughout the competition.
The president encouraged Nigerians to find solace in the fact that the team’s performance secured a significant victory for Nigeria in the hearts of Africa and the world. He emphasized that the grit, rigor, and determination displayed by the Super Eagles reflected the nation’s enduring spirit.
Addressing the nation, President Tinubu urged unity and a collective effort to overcome challenges. He stated, “Let this passing event not dispirit us but bring us together to work harder. We are a great nation bound as one by the green-white-green banner of resilience, joy, hope, duty, and untiring love.”
To the Nigerian youth actively participating in sports, particularly football, he delivered a message of inspiration, saying, “To those cherished Nigerian youths expressing their gifts in communities, drawing lines in the sand as they play football in their humble rectangles of play, you can be our heroes tomorrow; do not relent in your pursuit. My administration is here to make dreams come true.”
