Tinubu Approves Key Appointments for Health, Social Welfare Agencies
President Bola Tinubu has given the nod for the appointment and reappointment of Board Chairpersons and Chief Executive Officers for eight agencies and parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. This move reflects Tinubu’s commitment to elevating Nigerian public health standards and delivering affordable, quality care aligned with global best practices.
In an official statement released by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, the appointments and reappointments are as follows:
National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC):
Board Chairperson: Dr. Mansur Kabir
Chief Executive Officer: Prof. Moji Adeyeye
National Blood Service Commission (NBSC):
Board Chairperson: Prof. Abba Zubairu
Chief Executive Officer: Dr. Saleh Yuguda
Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN):
Board Chairperson: Prof. Afolabi Lesi
Chief Executive Officer: Dr. Fatima Kyari
Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN):
Board Chairperson: Pharm. Wasilat Giwa
Chief Executive Officer: Pharm. Ibrahim Ahmed
Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN):
Board Chairperson: Dr. Babajide Salako

Additionally, as part of efforts to enhance Nigeria’s public health surveillance, Dr. Olajide Idris is appointed as the new Director-General / Chief Executive Officer for the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) starting February 19, 2024.
President Tinubu expects the appointed leaders to raise healthcare service standards across the nation, aligning with his Renewed Hope Agenda. Acknowledging the historical underperformance, he anticipates swift implementation of new policy frameworks, emphasizing a whole-of-government approach to transform the sector under the leadership of Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate.
