Tight Race as APC and ADC Draw Level in Karu
The chairmanship candidates of the All Progressives Congress and the African Democratic Congress recorded equal votes at a polling unit in Karu during Saturday’s Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.
At Polling Unit 072, located within the Supreme Court Staff Quarters in Karu, Abuja, the APC candidate, Christopher Maikalangu, secured 12 votes. The ADC candidate, Paul Moses, also polled 12 votes.
The result was announced at about 3:30 p.m. by Independent National Electoral Commission Presiding Officer Martins Sani in the presence of party agents and election officials.
Other parties trailed behind. The Peoples Democratic Party candidate received four votes, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance candidate got two. Candidates of the Social Democratic Party and the Action Democratic Party recorded one vote each.
A total of 32 voters were accredited and cast ballots out of 749 registered voters at the polling unit. There were no rejected ballots.
Sani confirmed that 717 registered voters did not participate in the exercise. He added that party agents signed the result sheets after the announcement, and the figures were uploaded to the INEC Results Viewing Portal.
According to the presiding officer, the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System functioned without technical issues during the voting process.
