Protest: Pro-INEC Group Stages March in Abuja, Backs Commission Over ADC Dispute
Members of the Concerned Nigeria Youth Forum on Tuesday staged a march in Abuja in support of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), amid ongoing controversy surrounding the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The demonstration was led by the group’s convener, Adeyeye Olugbenga, who said the action was intended to affirm confidence in the electoral commission and its adherence to due process.
Olugbenga said the march followed criticism directed at INEC after the commission complied with a court order to remove what he described as the “illegal leadership” of ADC, including David Mark, from its official records.
He also criticised a 48-hour ultimatum reportedly issued to the INEC chairman by unnamed individuals, describing them as “faceless” actors attempting to pressure the commission.
According to him, the group will continue to support INEC, maintaining that the commission’s actions were consistent with legal procedures and aimed at safeguarding the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral system.
