Three Reps Break Ranks, Reject N37bn Allocation For Renovation of National Assembly
Three members of the House of Representatives have broken ranks with the rest of the National Assembly by openly rejecting the N37bn allocated for the renovation of the National Assembly complex.
The lawmakers who took to Twitter to express their opposition to the huge cost of renovating the National Assembly argued that the money could be better used to finance more pressing needs of the nation.
A former Minority Leader of the House and the member representing Isoko federal constituency of Delta state, Mr. Leo Ogor said what the country needs are more upgraded classrooms and hospitals to cater for the needs of Nigerian people.

Akin Alabi the member representing Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal constituency of Oyo State and a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) re-echoed Ogor’s thoughts by suggesting the money be used for renovation of schools and hospitals. He said that only sound and electronic voting system of the National Assembly that needs upgrade and not the entire complex.

Adding to the voices of Ogor and Alabi, Bamidele Salam, the member representing Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency of Osun State said the money allocated for renovation of the National Assembly, Presidential Villa and offices of other political office holders in the 2020 budget can be injected into the financing of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs). He assured that he will make a case against the renovation when the House reconvenes in January.
