Three Nigerian Police Officers Dismissed for Abduction, Extortion in Abia

The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has dismissed three officers for their involvement in conspiracy, abduction, and extortion. The dismissed officers—Sergeant Jonas Nnamdi, Corporal James Daniel, and Corporal Ifeanyi Emeka—were arrested on January 29, 2025, by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Abayi after being caught in possession of an electric baton, an assault rifle, and a Beretta pistol.

According to a statement by Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer for Abia State Command, the officers were found to have conspired to hire a minibus and abduct civilians along the Port Harcourt Expressway. They allegedly threatened and extorted their victims before demanding additional money from their families for their release. Following an orderly room trial, their involvement in these criminal activities was confirmed, leading to their dismissal on February 7, 2025.

The officers have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution, along with their civilian accomplices. The police command has also retrieved their official equipment, formally stripping them of their status as officers.

Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa reaffirmed the force’s zero tolerance for corruption and misconduct, emphasizing that discipline and professionalism are the foundation of the Nigeria Police Force. He assured the public that the command remains committed to rooting out bad elements within the force and upholding the Inspector General of Police’s vision for a professional and law-abiding police service.
