Three Katsina LGAs Sign Fresh Peace Accord with Bandits

Three local government areas in Katsina State — Malumfashi, Funtua, and Bakori — have signed a new peace pact with bandits as part of ongoing efforts to end the cycle of attacks, killings, and abductions in the region.

The agreement was reached during a peace meeting held in the Kakumi community of Bakori LGA, where representatives of armed groups and community delegates from the three areas met to foster dialogue and mutual understanding.

Sources from the meeting disclosed that several bandit leaders pledged to cease hostilities and suspend all attacks within the participating communities starting Sunday, October 12. The move is part of a wider initiative by the Katsina State Government to restore security and revive farming, trade, and other rural economic activities disrupted by years of violence.

Traditional rulers, community elders, and security officials were present at the meeting and called on all parties to honour the terms of the accord to ensure lasting peace.

Residents of Malumfashi, Funtua, and Bakori expressed optimism that the new agreement would reduce insecurity and allow normal life to resume.

The three LGAs now join others, including Batsari, Kankara, Kurfi, Musawa, Danmusa, Jibia, Faskari, Sabuwa, and Dandume, that have entered into similar peace deals with bandit groups in recent months.
