According to Police Spokesman Henry Okoye, the assailants, believed to be members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), arrived in three SUVs. They launched a fierce assault on the police facility with sustained gunfire.

In response, the police operatives took defensive positions and engaged the attackers, resulting in the deaths of three assailants. The remaining attackers, who sustained injuries, fled into nearby bushlands.

During the operation, law enforcement recovered one General Purpose Machine Gun, one AK-47 rifle, and three vehicles, including a Toyota Lexus 470, a Mercedes GLK, and a Toyota Venza.
