“This Is the Time Civil Servants in Edo Will Truly Enjoy” — APC’s Okpebholo

As the race for the governorship of Edo State intensifies, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has pledged a prosperous era for civil servants if he is elected. Addressing supporters in Benin City, Okpebholo emphasized that his administration would not rely on consultants to perform tasks meant for civil servants.

In a clear response to allegations from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Okpebholo assured that the current monthly minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants would remain intact. “Their salaries will be guaranteed. Nobody is going to reduce it,” he stated, dismissing rumors of potential pay cuts.

Speaking at a rally in Oredo Local Government Area, the APC candidate outlined his vision for the state, promising to declare a state of emergency in key sectors including education, health, security, and infrastructure. Okpebholo vowed to bring comprehensive development to Edo, marking a new chapter in the state’s history.

“This is the time civil servants in the state will truly enjoy. We will give them the opportunity to do their job,” he asserted, emphasizing the importance of empowering the state’s workforce.

Okpebholo also pledged to employ 5,000 teachers and provide interest-free loans to market women to support their businesses. His campaign promises focus on immediate and impactful changes that will benefit the broader population.

Former Edo State Governor and current Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, joined Okpebholo at the event, urging voters to support the APC candidate. Oshiomhole, who referred to Okpebholo by his popular nickname “Akpakomiza,” highlighted the candidate’s potential to rescue Edo State from the challenges allegedly brought by the current administration.

“Akpakomiza, even in this land (Benin), properly translated, means a redeemer, somebody you call to the rescue when there is trouble in the land,” Oshiomhole remarked, underscoring the urgency of political change in the state.

The campaign event also saw a notable political shift, with several individuals claiming to be members of the Obaseki family announcing their defection to the APC.

As Edo State prepares for its off-cycle governorship election, scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for September 21, 2024, the political landscape continues to evolve with significant endorsements and pledges from candidates.
