‘They Just Landed Me a Love Letter’ — Fubara Reacts to Impeachment Notice

 

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has downplayed the impeachment notice issued against him by the Rivers State House of Assembly, describing it as a “love letter.”

 

The House of Assembly recently served impeachment notices on Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, citing allegations of gross misconduct against the administration.

 

Although the Rivers State High Court had earlier issued an interim order halting the impeachment process, the Assembly announced on Friday that the state’s Chief Judge had received and acknowledged the notice.

 

Governor Fubara addressed the development on Saturday while speaking to supporters at the grand finale of the 2026 NPA Port Harcourt International Polo Tournament.

 

Referring to the impeachment move, the governor said he was surprised by the development but maintained that it would not distract his administration from its responsibilities.

 

“I thought 2026 would be the finest, but they just landed me a love letter,” Fubara said.

 

He added that his government remains focused on governance and would continue to support individuals and initiatives aimed at advancing the interests of Rivers State.

 

“Notwithstanding this, we must carry out our responsibility as a government, and we will continue to support everyone who means well for Rivers State,” he said.
