“There’s No Single Lie in My Book” – Dele Farotimi
Dele Farotimi, who has been detained since early December, has denied authorizing Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to seek an out-of-court settlement or issue an apology to legal luminary Afe Babalola (SAN). This clarification was made by Farotimi’s lawyer, Tope Temokun, during an interview on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande on Channels Television.
The controversy stems from a defamation case linked to Farotimi’s book, Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System, which accuses the judiciary of corruption, including allegations involving Afe Babalola. Following Peter Obi’s recent visits to both Afe Babalola and Farotimi at the Ado-Ekiti correctional facility, speculation arose about attempts to resolve the matter outside court.
Temokun, who visited Farotimi in prison, explained that the purpose of his visit was to clarify the situation and discuss Farotimi’s stance. According to him, Farotimi expressed disappointment at any suggestion that he would authorize someone to beg on his behalf. “He categorically told me that if anybody believes he sent someone to plead, he would be deeply disappointed. He said he had no knowledge of Peter Obi’s movements or his visits.”
Farotimi further reaffirmed his position on the allegations contained in his book, insisting that there is no falsehood in his claims. “He said those fighting him are fighting the truth and that he will have the last laugh,” Temokun added.
Temokun emphasized that Farotimi remains steadfast in his principles and philosophy, reiterating his demand for justice for all parties involved. The lawyer concluded that Farotimi’s focus is on the pursuit of truth and fairness rather than any form of compromise.
