“The PDP Is Dead” – Ganduje Declares, Predicts Party’s Collapse Before End of 2025
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will cease to exist before the end of 2025. Ganduje made this assertion in response to remarks by former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, who had predicted that the APC would eventually disintegrate and that former PDP members, including Ganduje, would return to the opposition party.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje dismissed Lamido’s claims as “baseless and illogical,” insisting he has no intention of leaving the APC for what he described as a “failing opposition.” He suggested that it was in fact Lamido who may soon find himself without a political home. “In fact, we will soon receive Sule Lamido because very soon he won’t have where to go. The PDP is dead,” Ganduje said.
The APC chairman cited internal divisions within the PDP as the main reason for its impending collapse, asserting that the party’s instability would lead to its end before 2025 concludes. He pointed to a wave of defections from opposition parties to the APC as proof of the ruling party’s growing dominance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership.
“It is evident to any discerning observer that under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC continues to gain momentum, with prominent political figures across the country defecting to the party in large numbers,” the statement read. Ganduje emphasized the APC’s focus on consolidating its gains and preparing for a landslide victory in the 2027 general elections.
Reaffirming his commitment to the APC, Ganduje described it as the largest political party in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. He expressed pride in leading the party and pledged to continue promoting internal democracy and sustainable governance.
He advised Lamido to focus on resolving the issues plaguing the PDP rather than making what he called “unfounded claims.”
Ganduje also addressed concerns about the growing dominance of the APC, stating there is nothing inherently wrong with a one-party system if that is what Nigerians desire. Citing China as an example, he noted that the Asian country functions effectively under a one-party model. “We are not saying we are working for a one-party system, but if that is the wish of Nigerians, we cannot quarrel with that,” he said.
