PDP Cannot Give Presidential Ticket to the North in 2027 – Wike Warns
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) must not zone its presidential ticket to the North for the 2027 elections. Speaking during a media chat on Monday, Wike strongly cautioned against any such move, warning that it would reflect selfishness and harm the party’s prospects.
Although he did not mention names, Wike’s remarks appeared to be directed at former Vice President and PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. The former Rivers State governor questioned the rationale behind another Northern candidacy, arguing that it would compromise the party’s integrity.
“PDP cannot give the presidential ticket to the North (in 2027),” Wike stated. “Selfishness can kill a system.”
He pointed out that if President Bola Tinubu runs for and wins re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027, the ruling party would likely zone its 2031 ticket to the North. “PDP will do what then?” he asked. “You will come back then and say since APC is sending it to the North, we should follow them and give it to the North?”
