Tension as Protest Rocks APC National Secretariat

A protest broke out on Friday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat in Abuja as aggrieved members from Ekiti State expressed anger over the disqualification of governorship aspirant, Kayode Ojo, from the forthcoming APC primary election.

The demonstration saw dozens of party members—mostly women—storm the secretariat, chanting slogans and carrying placards to demand Ojo’s reinstatement. The protesters accused the party leadership of imposing a “consensus candidate” and undermining internal democracy within the APC.

Placards carried by the protesters bore messages such as *“We Say No to Kayode Ojo’s Disqualification,” “Ekiti Women Reject BAO,” and “APC Must Let Ekiti People Choose Their Candidate.

Ojo’s exclusion follows a decision by the APC National Working Committee (NWC) to disqualify him from the October 27 governorship primary in Ekiti State—effectively clearing the way for the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, to run unopposed.

The decision has sparked widespread criticism among party members and stakeholders who argue that it violates the spirit of fair competition.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Ekiti State Governorship Election for July 20, 2026.
