Ten Dead, 21 Injured in Tragic Road Crashes Across Lagos, Kogi and Enugu
A series of fatal road crashes across Lagos, Kogi and Enugu has left ten people dead and twenty-one others injured, prompting renewed concern over rising road safety risks in the country.
In Lagos, a federal fire service officer stationed at the Trade Fair Complex died in an accident along the Trade Fair inward Abule-Ado service lane. Two others—a police officer and a scavenger—were also killed in a separate crash at Ilubirin on Lagos Island. The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency confirmed the incidents, describing them as another grim reminder of the consequences of reckless driving. The agency’s leadership extended condolences to the families affected.
Enugu recorded another major accident at New Gariki on the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, involving at least ten vehicles. Four trailers loaded with cattle and goods, two commercial buses, two Sienna vehicles and several smaller cars were caught in the pile-up after some motorists reportedly drove against traffic at high speed. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as multiple vehicles collided and overturned.
In Kogi, six people died and thirteen others were injured in a crash along the Lokoja–Okene highway. The victims were returning from an event marking the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities when the bus conveying them was involved in the accident. The state government confirmed the tragedy, describing it as a moment of deep sorrow for the people of the state. Authorities announced that the medical treatment of all injured persons would be covered by the government, with officials dispatched to hospitals to monitor their care and support families of the victims.
The government urged residents to pray for the recovery of the injured and for the repose of the departed, calling the incident a painful blow to the state and the communities affected.
