Suspended UNICAL Dean, Prof. Cyril Ndifon, Alleges Threat to Life Amid Sexual Harassment Scandal

Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), has expressed deep concern for his safety amidst allegations of sexual harassment that have gripped the institution. Prof. Ndifon made these shocking claims following a bizarre incident during Sunday church service at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Akim Barracks, Calabar.

In a harrowing account shared with reporters after the church service, Prof. Ndifon disclosed that unidentified individuals claiming to be “security personnel” had entered the church premises with the intention of arresting him. The incident unfolded at approximately 8:18 a.m. as he carried out his duties as a church warden.

Narrating the incident, Prof. Ndifon stated, “Today, I went to church by 8:15 am, where I serve as a churchwarden, and while in church much later towards the end, we got wind that some individuals had come into the church and went to see the catechist and informed him that they came to arrest somebody.”

The catechist, in an attempt to verify their authenticity, asked for identification and an arrest warrant, both of which the individuals failed to provide. Before the Reverend Father and concerned parishioners could intervene, these individuals vanished without a trace.

Prof. Ndifon voiced his apprehension over the lack of proper identification by individuals claiming to be security agents. He expressed his suspicion that this incident might be linked to recent events, notably the sealing of his office by the University of Calabar’s management.

“I think this is a huge security concern, and I thought it wise that this is the time to shout and talk about the threat to my life because that is what it looks like,” Prof. Ndifon asserted.

Addressing the ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against him, Prof. Ndifon clarified his stance on the university’s panel, which he believes is illegitimate. He stated, “That panel is unknown to my status as a lecturer in the University of Calabar. I am a professor of law, and I think the right thing should be done. I’m not scared of appearing in any panel.”

Prof. Ndifon revealed that he has already taken legal action to challenge the legitimacy of the panel. He emphasized that he had not received an official invitation to appear before it.

In his concluding remarks, Prof. Ndifon appealed to both state and federal government authorities, as well as concerned Nigerians, to intervene in the matter, emphasizing that his primary concern was his safety amid these tumultuous times.
