Suspected IPOB/ESN Members Attack Imo Correctional Centre, Free Inmates, and Kill Police Inspector

The Imo State Police Command has accused alleged members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) of orchestrating a fatal attack on the Okigwe Correctional Service. During the assault, seven inmates were freed, and a police inspector lost his life, with another officer reportedly abducted.

Police spokesperson Henry Okoye released a statement on Monday, stating that the incident occurred at the farm settlement of the Correctional Service in Umualomoke, Okigwe. Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, visited the scene and has since deployed the Command’s Special Tactical Squad, collaborating with the military and other security agencies to apprehend the suspected IPOB/ESN elements responsible for the attack.

The aftermath of the assault prompted Commissioner Danjuma to mandate the special tactical squad to intensify efforts in rescuing the abducted officer and capturing the escaped inmates. He urged the public to report any useful information to the nearest Police Station or via 08034773600.

Despite the unsettling events, Commissioner Danjuma reassured the people of Imo State, encouraging them to continue their lawful activities without fear. He emphasized the Command’s commitment to ensuring the state’s protection and vowed that those responsible for the attacks would be apprehended and brought to justice.
