Suspected Herdsmen Launch Deadly Attack on Makurdi–Naka Road, Leaving Commuters Stranded
Several people are feared dead and many others injured following a fresh attack by suspected armed herdsmen on the Makurdi–Naka road. The incident took place on Friday evening along this volatile route, causing panic and leaving numerous commuters stranded for hours.
Sources on the ground told our reporter that the attackers struck swiftly, targeting vehicles and travelers along the road, which has been a hotspot for violence in recent weeks. The area remains under the control of armed Fulani militia groups despite repeated promises from authorities that military intervention would restore peace.
This latest assault comes just days after Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, relocated to Benue State in a bid to address the escalating violence across the region. However, the ongoing attacks suggest that security challenges remain deeply entrenched, raising concerns over the safety of residents and travelers in the state. Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the latest attack or provide updates on efforts to secure the Makurdi–Naka corridor.
